Journeyman – Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY: Operate multiply pieces of heavy equipment and be capable of interpreting blue prints, layout, and cutting grade: 

  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Complies with all applicable standards, policies and procedures, including safety procedures in the performance of assigned tasks.
  2. Performs pre shift equipment checklist before operating equipment, with the ability of recognizing flawed, defective, or unsafe operation.
  3. Shows the knowledge and experience to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  4. Operator must be able to interpret blue prints and layout contours, slopes, ditches, etc., and safely cut to grade.
  5. Operator has the understanding and proper training to perform proper benching and sloping, as required, per OSHA regulation.
  6. Keeps spoiled material clear of trenches and walk surfaces smoothed per OSHA regulation.
  7. Operator ensures clear communication with surrounding coworkers and/or other equipment operators and visual assessment of his or her work area throughout the work shift.
  8. Employee keeps tracks cleaned out as needed, windows clean, the interior cab clear of trash and unnecessary debris, and the exterior of the equipment cleaned.
  9. Employee ensures equipment when shutdown, is proper chaulked if necessary, emergency brake engaged, and keys removed and stored in the proper location.
  10. Employee ensures equipment is greased and fueled on a daily basis.
  11. Accepts responsibility for proper care and use of company provided tools and equipment.
  12. Responsible to furnish all applicable hand tools to perform the necessary job functions.
  13. Demonstrates effective communication with supervisor, peers, subordinates and clients; conducts him or herself in a professional manner.
  14. Demonstrates willingness to travel with overnight stay to meet project requirements and schedules; this may include nights, weekends and holidays

 

Education and Experience Requirements: High School diploma or GED; and/or one to three years related experience.

Certificates/Licenses/Registration Required: It is a condition of employment for anyone hired/transferred into this position to have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage as an approved driver under the company insurance policy.
